The Process

Polymer photogravure

Polymer photogravure is one of the techniques that I use. What is that?  Well it is a print process and printmaking is all about process that involves using a polymer film that is used in making circuit boards.  I have been using image-on film. Other types of film are on the market but image-on works best for me. The film is laminated to a plastic plate. A film positive is made of an image. The positive and the plastic plate with film are sandwiched together and exposed to light and developed. The plate is wiped and like an intaglio plate. Ink going into the recesses and excess ink wiped off. The plate is run through the press. Most of my images have two and three plates. It is a hand on process.

Vintage Wallpaper and Linoleum

Vintage Wallpaper and Linoleums are just that. A Linoleum plate is carved (just like you made in high school) and is matched with vintage wallpaper. It is debated if they are really prints. The print process is used and the images are all glued together then are run through the press, which makes adhesion permanent.

Etching

Etching is another process that I use to make prints. Traditional etching processes are used with a big effort to go the non-toxic route. It is an antiquated way of making art. You can make such wonderful drawings using this technique. Fine beautiful lines Dark velvety blacks.
